What is Augmented Reality? How is it growing?

What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented Reality is a highly advanced technology that produces a digital visual of the real world based on the user’s view. It is the connectivity between the realistic presence of physical bodies and the user’s perspective through a digital lens. However, it is different from the camera lens. The camera presents the image as it appears in the lens, in contrast to this augmented reality analyzes and generates a user-friendly image of reality.

How does Augmented Reality work?

Augmented stands for something larger, or in this case a broader vision than previous inventions. Augmented reality works through AR-based apps. You can install these apps on your smart devices, smartphone, tablets, and PC, provided it has a well-equipped camera lens. This AR app will observe the presented reality, analyze it and give the user a flowing image of reality. It has a 3-D vision, and the augmented reality flows according to the data fed into the system, followed by the command of the user.

Augmented reality examples are:

The user can hold a particular vision, and allow it to be analyzed, for example, a vision that comprises several stationery items can be named or described further as per the user’s choice. It then showcases the present reality of the product.

Another example of Augmented Reality is when you go to a store and face trouble finding a particular brand or product. Through AR you can easily get a 360-degree view and locate the item of choice.

Types of Augmented Reality:

Augmented Reality can be categorized into 2 types:

  1. Marker-based AR – Marker-based Augmented Reality recognizes real-life objects and is more interactive.
  2. Markless AR – This does not require image identification but rather is based on the location of the user.

Under Markless AR,  there are further types:

  • Location-based Augmented Reality
  • Projection-based Augmented Reality
  • Contour-based Augmented Reality
  • Overlay Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality Apps

AR apps that work for both iOS and Android gadgets.

  • IKea Place
  • GIPHY World
  • Houzz
  • Google Lens
  • Augment
  • Pokémon Go
  • scope
  • Roar

Augmented Reality Tutorial Steps:

Step 1 – Install the Augmented Reality app

Step 2 – Follow the guidelines of a concerning to Marker- based AR

Step 3 – Capture a reality

Step 4 – Allow AR to analyze it

Step 5 – Edit and select based on location or other options available.

Augmented Reality vs Virtual Reality

The fundamental difference between the two stands in their names itself, reality and virtual. In this context, Augmented Reality has the real world as the platform which it digitizes further. Contradicting this, VR (Virtual Reality) is a fictional world constructed on virtual grounds.

Augmented Reality in Education

In education, the students are first introduced to theoretical concepts, followed by real-life experiences in the latter part of life. In the Augmented Reality era, students are exposed to real-life work, introduced to the growing technology since the beginning stage of education, and scope for experiment.

Examples of Augmented Reality Apps for Students that will benefit their Education:

  • QUIVER
  • AURSAMA
  • JigSpace
  • Complete Anatomy 2021
  • Adobe Aero
